Favourite Songs of the British Invasion
I want to Hold your Hand kicked off the British invasion, but in the 4 years that encapsulated that period what were the songs that defined an era?
What About the Fashion?
The British not only brought their music, but with Carnaby Street and its outrageous fashions they brought ground breaking style and imagery to America's shores. Mary Quant was one of those designers who brought a whole new look to the 60s.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Quant
How long did the invasion last?
It is reported that the invasion lasted from 1963-1967, but some argue that it continued into the 70's and some even say it still goes on?
The Beatles Storm into America
After some success in their native Britain, The Beatles travelled across the Pond to begin a musical journey that would not only change their lives, but also that of the whole world of popular music that would still have influences and repercussions on many artists today.
The Bands and Artists Involved in the British Invasion
America saw the British scene as a more rebellious and edgy form of self expression and music. The Beatles' legendary performance on America's top TV programme the ED Sullivan Show in 1963 and the Rolling Stones' raunchy live shows, opened the doors for a host of other British artists usually not commonplace or first choice in the public's mind:
Dusty Springfield
Petula Clark
The Kinks
The Animals
The Troggs
Hermans Hermits
Donovan

What was the British Invasion of the 1960s?
www.historyguy.com/biofiles/rolling_stones.htmlThe early 1960s saw a multitude of British bands invading America with their poptastic tunes and Britishness. Never before had UK bands had such success and chart topping tunes as these early 1960s pioneers. This involved a host of British Bands travelling across the Atlantic with a style of music and fashion that had never been seen before. Rock and Roll had its foundations in America in the previous decade, but in this new decade the world and especially America cried for more. The freshness of British Blues rock and pop was met with great applomb by a wanting audience; in fact bands like the Rolling Stones were repackaging black American Blues and making it their own. Bands who could find success in Britain were now conquering the U S of A to an even greater degree; everything British was deemed uber cool.
